The second phase of the Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Project would commence construction upon the completion of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s maternity block and the Kumasi International Airport, according to Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah.

The project’s financiers have reassessed their agreement with the government following Ghana’s restructuring talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to the Minister providing updates on the project that has halted.

“I have said on different occasions that, delays on the market project were due to government’s negotiations with the IMF but I can assure you of ongoing efforts to completing the project “.

“Those financing the Kumasi International Airport Project are the very people financing both the Kejetia Project and the Komfo Anokye Maternity Block; the important thing is that, they have agreed to continue providing funding for all the projects”.

For the time being, all I can say is that the Kejetia project will proceed forward in accordance with the new agreement after finance for the two other projects has been obtained. In a Kumasi interview with journalists, he stated.

In the meantime, some Kumasi Metropolis traders are threatening to go on a five-day nonstop protest if the second phase of the Kejetia reconstruction project is not started right away.

When Contracta, the project’s construction company, stopped operations on the site in December 2022, the project came to an end.

The traders said they will not rest until the market project is completed as promised by government.
