President John Dramani Mahama has called on recently appointed ministers to assume their positions with humility, transparency, and a dedication to serving Ghanaians.

On Wednesday, January 22, he made these statements at the swearing-in ceremony for six cabinet nominees who had been approved by Parliament after extensive vetting and discussion.

Among those sworn in are Governs Kwame Agbodza as Minister of Roads and Highways, Eric Opoku as Minister of Food and Agriculture, Haruna Iddrisu as Minister of Education, John Jinapor as Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister of Finance, and Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General.

While addressing the appointees, President Mahama emphasized that their authority comes from the people who elected the government to power and reminded them of the vital role they play in achieving the goals of the Ghanaian people.

“Ghanaians have shown that the days of tolerance from disrespectful gaslighting by government officials are well and truly over. They will take firm actions when they deem fit to punish any administration that takes them for granted.

“I, therefore, charge you to always serve in humility and candour, always remembering that we serve at the pleasure of the Ghanaians people and that the authority we exercise emanates from them. We must exhibit tolerance for their views and work to meet their aspirations,” he stated.

President Mahama also emphasized the need for public servants to remain grounded and dedicated to their responsibilities by promising that his administration would not accept any disrespect for the people who entrusted them with governance.

He went on to say “This government will tolerate disrespect for the people for the people who elected us into office.”
