Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, a member of parliament for Assin South, has questioned why some diplomats have labeled Ghana as being behind other countries because of the anti-LGBT+ law that is now being debated in parliament.
The MP charged such critics with being biased in their critique in a social media post seen by Ghanatodayonline.com.
The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, is a private members bill sponsored by Sam George (NDC MP), Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah (NDC MP), Della Adjoa Sowah (NDC MP), Rev Ntim Fordjour (NPP MP), Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini (NDC MP), Rita Naa Odoley Ntso (NDC MP) and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (NDC MP).
The measure, among other things, aims to make same-sex relationships and activities that support LGBTQ+ people illegal.
On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, Parliament passed a motion to pass the measure.
