Under its recently introduced Business and Employment Assistance Programme (BEAP), the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will hire 20,000 youth in Ghana.

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is implementing the Business and Employment Assistance Programme (BEAP) with the goal of reducing the country’s youth unemployment rates.

The initiative aims to lessen the financial strain MSMEs faced during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic period.

Speaking about the project, YEA CEO Kofi Baah Agyepong revealed that the Business and Employment Assistance Programme of the program is expected to reduce Ghana’s unemployment rate by providing a lifeline to young people who are striving to secure a bright future.

According to Mr. Agyepong, the BEAP was established to support struggling businesses after a recent Ghana Statistical Service survey revealed the challenges faced by companies, such as wage reductions and layoffs.

With each hired employee receiving GHS 500 in wage support with employers footing the remaining bill the program aims to provide a lifeline to MSMEs.

The BEAP aims to lower the financial burden on these organizations and create jobs for Ghanaians by focusing on a range of businesses, such as chop bars, pharmacies, and schools.

Mr. Agyepong claims that the program will support 10,000 businesses, resulting in the employment of nearly 20,000 people.

The CEO expressed gratitude to the government for approving and supporting the initiative, stating that he believed it would aid Ghana’s endeavors to tackle unemployment.

He also emphasized the YEA’s commitment to using these funds exclusively to create jobs and reminded the public that the organization is financially stable because of the Communication Service Tax.

Mr. Agyepong highlighted the successes of the YEA’s previous initiatives, which included skill development, job prospects promotion, and partnerships with state organizations.

Notwithstanding the state of the global economy, he emphasized the organization’s dedication to reducing youth unemployment and improving their standard of living.
