The Finance Minister and the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration have come under fire from Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, for failing to capitalize on Ghanaians’ predicament and abolish what he terms “nuisance taxes.”
According to him, the government lost the chance to eliminate some levies that Ghanaians have been grumbling about, such as the COVID-19 and E-Levy.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, while addressing on the floor of Parliament, the Minority Leader announced this.
“Ghanaians anticipated that since firms are leaving the nation, the government would have eliminated some levies.
The COVID levy, E-Levy, “borla” tax, residential electricity tax, and emission levy are among the levies. This is a chance that was lost. They lack ideas, and you are headed into resistance,” he remarked.
The minister of finance said in the meanwhile that no additional taxes will be implemented by the administration.
Nonetheless, permission has been granted to reinstate road tolls.
