John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denied assertions made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that their government generated two million jobs.

Mr. Mahama stated that this claim is unsupported by facts and called it the NPP’s political tactic to garner support before the national elections in 2024.

Notwithstanding the difficulties facing the world economy, NPP leader Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently praised the accomplishments of the administration, claiming that 2.1 million employment were generated between 2017 and 2022.

According to Dr. Bawumia, these numbers showed how committed the government is to tackling unemployment.

Mahama, however, rejected these assertions during a campaign trip in Asutifi North, in the Ahafo Region, claiming that the numbers were exaggerated for political purposes and did not accurately depict Ghana’s present employment situation.

He exhorted the people to examine the NPP’s claims of employment creation closely.

“We cannot be deceived by the unemployment rate, under the NDC administration it was 8.4% but it has since risen.

“Despite the president and vice president claiming to have created over two million jobs, I ask where are these jobs and how many have reached the residents.”

“This seems like mere rhetoric aimed at winning votes. That is why we are advocating for a 24-hour economy policy to create new job opportunities,” Mahama added.
