John Dramani Mahama, the president of Ghana, has thanked the people of Ghana for enabling him to come back to the country and promised that their confidence will not be in vain.

He claims that their votes will have a big impact on his leadership as he strives to transform the entire country.

“To the millions of my fellow countrymen and women who joined long queues and waited in the sun for their turn to vote for me, you have my sincerest thanks for honouring me.

“My firm, immutable assurance is that your votes will matter in the work I will do to make a difference in the destiny of this dear nation of ours. Your courage to bring change will not go in vain,” he added.

Speaking shortly after he was sworn into office as the new president on Tuesday, January 7, Mr Mahama promised to work diligently.

“As your next leader, I shall strive to exercise sound judgement and make the right calls at the right times,” he stated.

The elections in December 2024 marked the return of former President Mr. Mahama. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had failed to control the economy for the previous eight years, he continued, so he was on a mission to reset.

As he assumes the role, he will “have the humility and presence of mind to take responsibility for any challenges,” he said.

President Mahama acknowledged Ghana’s terrible economic situation and pledged to address the issues head-on and with tenacity.

He gave an overview of his administration’s plans to bring economic stability back and create a thriving business and investment environment so that Ghana may once again serve as a center for trade and entrepreneurship.

In order to fortify national institutions, the president also emphasized the significance of constitutional amendments and governance.

He promised to make transparency a pillar of his government and reaffirmed his commitment to upholding accountability and stepping up the fight against corruption.
