The Coalition of Aggrieved Menzgold Ghana Customers has urged President Akufo-Addo to discuss the problem of the locked-up investments of Menzgold customers in the 2023 State of the Nation Address as a matter of national concern (SONA).
On March 8, 2023, the President is anticipated to deliver the SONA to Lawmakers.
In a statement, the Coalition observed that customers’ efforts to get their investments back will be aided by the President’s clear declaration on how the government will pay the locked-up investment in Menzgold.
The Coalition’s leadership petitioned the president to intervene in the customers’ plight on September 12, 2022, and they stated that they anticipate government to do so in order to save lives given that nearly 200 customers have already perished.
The Securities and Exchange Commission halted Menzgold’s activities in September 2018.
The Minerals Commission of Ghana originally issued the business with a working authorization in 2014 that was mainly intended for gold export and trading.
However, as rumors of a gold investment plan with high returns began to spread, the Bank of Ghana started to issue cautions, advising people to avoid doing business with the company and cautioning it against accepting cash donations.
While the business also called the regulating officials’ bluff, some consumers were adamant.
Since the closure, Menzgold’s customers have been unable to access their deposits and have staged numerous fruitless protests at its different branches.
