Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, the former General Secretary of the government’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ken Ofori-Atta to resign from his position for bringing Ghana before the IMF.

He asserts that the Finance Minister’s continued post is incompatible with what he has said against the IMF and the previous administration’s choice to enter a program with the Western organization.

During an interview with Hard Truth on Joy News, the former presidential spokesperson said, “I would imagine that on the basis of what he said to the people two weeks prior, which is that we will never go to the IMF and [that] we’re a proud country with the resources.

“You should look yourself in the mirror and admit that you were mistaken when you speak that way.

I appreciate the chance, Mr. President, and I should stand down (resign).

Speaking to the media last Saturday at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) annual national delegates’ conference in Accra, Ofori-Atta asserted that resignation is not the wisest course of action at this time.

The finance minister vowed not to step down. It’s similar to asking a parent to stop being a father to his kids because he has changed his mind.Sometimes, judgments must be made to ensure a nations’s survival; as a result,if events like Covid-19 or the Ukraine war arise that are unusual,it does alter the atmosphere and rationale people will change their thoughts,Ofori-Atta stated.
