Ghana secure qualification for AFCON 2023

Ghana’s thrilling victory over the Central African Republic in the last round of qualifiers on Thursday ensured their entry into the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

At the Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana overcame a goal deficit to defeat their opponents 2-1 with the help of an incredible freekick and late-game heroics.

Louis Moufata of the Central African Republic scored the game’s first goal in the 25th minute, setting the tone for a heated contest. Mohammed Kudus, who demonstrated his flair and accuracy by scoring a stunning free kick into the net in the 43rd minute, revived Ghana’s hopes right before halftime.

Both teams made key substitutes as time passed and the intensity rose. Osman Bukari was replaced by Nuamah, who gave the team some new life, and Semenyo entered the match with the intention of making a statement.

The game’s turning point came in the 88th minute when Semenyo, with a burst of speed and a flawless assist, set up Nuamah, who calmly put the ball into the net, sparking a fantastic mood of joy as the scoreline swung in Ghana’s favor.

With an astounding 12 points, Ghana’s tenacious victory not only guaranteed them a spot in the 2023 AFCON but also cemented their status as the group’s leaders. With eight points, Angola, who played concurrently against Madagascar and drew 0-0, also secured qualifying.

Ghana will now excitedly anticipate the upcoming competition where they will compete for glory with the best teams from the continent in Ivory Coast next year.
