A Ghana Police Service injunction against the organizers of the Democracy Hub rally was dismissed by an Accra High Court.
According to the police, the order was filed and served on Democracy Hub’s attorneys on September 19.
However, the Democracy Hub, the event’s organizers, refused to provide the service, which led to a dispute with the police.
This had an impact on the first day of the three-day protest since the police perceived everyone who congregated at the 37 Lorry Station as disobeying their orders after being properly warned.
On Thursday, September 21, they were nevertheless released, only to return on Friday and Saturday to finish the demonstration.
After the police withdrew their application, presiding judge Edward Twum remarked that although the respondent’s attorneys had received court papers, there was no documentation of service on Benjamin Akuffo Darko, the respondent in the case.
Thus, Justice Twum stated that the only possible course of action was for the application to be withdrawn because it had become irrelevant due to the lack of a court order and the fact that the protest had already taken place.
