Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, has filed a lawsuit in Accra High Court against Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, the convener of #FixTheCountry, over the latter’s assertions that the Minister gave him $1 million to discontinue his activism.

On Friday, September 22, the second day of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, he informed journalists that the Minister had contacted while he was in the UK and invited him to Ghana at the expense of the tax payer and offered him an appointment in an effort to dissuade him from stoking anti-government sentiments.

The comments in a summons are considered defamatory by Mr. Kan Dapaah’s attorneys.

Therefore, they are asking GH$10 million in general damages, as well as aggravated and/or exemplary damages for the remarks’ defamatory nature.

They demand Mr. Barker-Vormawor’s retractions and an apology.

They also demand a lifetime ban on the plaintiff using similar language.

“They went as far as offering us $1 million, they offered us a Committee Appointment, set up a Committee and appoint us to Government positions in order to stop this activism.

“This was made directly to me and other leaders of #FixTheCountry Movement.

“This conversation we had with the Minister of National Security, the Minister of Finance and a Brigadier General at a safe home,” Mr Barker-Vormawor said, insisting he cannot lie about such a thing.
