EC to declare presidential election results 72hrs after polls

The calendar for the 2024 presidential and legislative elections has been made public by the Electoral Commission (EC), and it states that nominations for candidates will be accepted from September 9 to September 13.

On September 23, 2024, ballots for presidential and legislative offices will be cast, marking the pinnacle of the political season.

If all goes according to plan, the EC intends to announce the results of the 2024 presidential votes within three days of the voting process, according to the Ghanatodayonline.com.

May 7–May 27, 2024 is when voters can register to vote. On May 30, 2024, a nationwide program to replace lost voter ID cards will start.

A 56-day public education campaign, scheduled to run from April 1 to May 26, 2024, will take place prior to the registration.

Political parties will get the provisional voters’ register between July 9 and July 18, 2024, and it will be on display from July 15 to July 24, 2024. Between August 30 and September 5, 2024, the final voter registration will be turned in.

September 24, 2024: Balloting for parliamentary positions.

December 2, 2024: Special Voting for selected professionals.

December 7, 2024: Main election day.

Within three days of December 7, 2024: Expected declaration of presidential results.

 

The EC will engage the public through its “Let the Citizen Know” series and organize discussions with stakeholders outside of the political party system in an effort to promote transparency and understanding.

In keeping with the EC’s responsibility for free and fair elections, this project seeks to dispel misgivings and distrust.

The EC unveiled plans for a Special Voting day on December 2, 2024, which would serve security agencies and authorized media professionals who will be working on the main election day, December 7, 2024. As stated by the sources, all dates are open to revision, though.

The EC plans to declare the results of the presidential election no later than three days, notwithstanding the absence of a legislative requirement for a fixed results declaration time. The sources state that the Regional Collation Centers will be essential in releasing results at the regional level.
