A fire accident in Kronom Kyerease in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region resulted in the death of a boy, thought to be 18 years old, and the hospitalization of two other children.

The dead, who was only given the name Atta, allegedly tried to put out a fire at a nearby rubber manufacturing facility but was instead burned beyond recognition.

The fire began on Saturday evening at the plastic melting business, but later extended to an 11-bedroom house and three other adjacent structures, according to fire fighters from the Ghana National Fire Service who were on the scene to salvage the situation.

The structures’ contents were destroyed by the fire.

In an interview with OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng, the Divisional Commander of the Breman Fire Station, DO3 Selasie Avevor, remarked that the fire was so intense that it required more firefighting personnel and supplies than usual to put it out.

He stated that the owners of the factory and the 11-bedroom house who lost consciousness owing to the severity of the fire are the other two who have been admitted to the Breman Hospital with varied degrees of injuries.

However, the Ghana National Incident Service (GNFS) has started an inquiry to determine what started the fire.
