Senior Presidential Advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo has made it clear that only Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is allowed to order the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to publish a load-shedding timetable.
In an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, April 23, at a meeting on open government partnerships and transparency in the construction industry in Accra, Osafo-Maafo clarified that the Energy Minister alone has the authority to decide whether or not to make the timetable public.
He made it clear that although the ECG is capable of evaluating power generation and consumption, only the Energy Minister possesses the all-encompassing authority required to decide when and how to distribute electricity rationing.
While Osafo-Maafo conceded that it is possible to produce such a schedule, doing so necessitates coordinating metrics related to energy generation and consumption, which is the job of the Energy Minister.
“The Minister of Energy is the only one who can announce a power ration since he is monitoring generation and the ECG is monitoring use. Thus, they may examine it and conclude that in this specific location, this is the proper way to do it, but it’s something that can be done because of what you have, what you need to utilize, and the spread,” he added.
