The Electoral Commission (EC) has been encouraged by Moment for Change founder Alan Kyerematen to address issues brought up by political parties prior to the elections in December.

He claims that the commission’s duties include making sure that all parties involved in the elections have faith in the system and conducting free and fair elections. He stated that in the event that misgivings are expressed regarding the procedure, the EC need to endeavor to allay public worries.

His remarks addressed whether the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should be granted their request for a forensic audit of the register.

According to Mr. Kyerematen, these disparities have been brought to the attention of the NDC, a significant stakeholder. Consequently, it is incumbent upon the EC to demonstrate its commitment to conducting a free and fair election.

“To respond to the specific cases that have been identified about irregularities in the voters’ register in order to ensure the integrity of the elections,” he stated in a September 16 interview with JoyNews’ News Desk.

“It only goes to enhance the credibility of the commission. Yes. It [ forensic audit] has to be. I am not sure why there should be a resistance to that. Because, yes the Electoral Commission has indicated that they have responded to those comments.

“But we have to put all reasonable doubt. There is a need to have a credible voters register. So if there is an indication that there is still doubt associated with the electoral register, then let us allow an extensive comprehensive audit, which can be done without any difficulty,” he said.

The candidates for president said that this would enhance public opinion of the EC’s credibility.

Despite the EC’s remarkable success in Africa, Mr. Kyerematen stated that care must be taken to preserve their good name.

Furthermore, he stated that the election administration authority must demonstrate that the electoral register is accurate and devoid of any grounds for complaints.

“It is only through an audit that this could happen” he declared.
