The government has designated Monday, September 23, 2024, as a formal public holiday through the Ministry of the Interior.
Henry Quartey, the sector minister, encouraged everyone in the nation to mark the day in a statement he released.
The day is designated as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day in honor of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana.
“However, in view of the fact that 21st September 2024 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 23rd September, 2024 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement read.

The general public is hereby informed that Saturday, 21st September, 2024 marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day which is a Statutory Public Holiday.
However, in view of the fact that 21st September, 2024 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 23rd September, 2024 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.
