The country’s various security agencies have been ordered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to increase security along Ghana’s borders with its neighbors.
He claimed that the administration is extremely concerned about the terrorist operations taking place in Sahelian nations like Burkina Faso and Mali, which is why strict measures are needed to protect the populace.
The President made the remark as he began his two-day business tour to the Upper West Region in a radio broadcast in Wa.
“So far, by the grace of God, Ghana has been spared so far. We cannot be complacent and take that for granted. We need all of us to understand that the best way for making sure that our country continues to be at peace so that we can get on with resolving the challenges of development which is our main concern will be undermined if we go to sleep on these terrorists.”
Ghana must immediately take preventive measures since the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, had said that several Ghanaians were being recruited to join extremist groups.
“Intelligence sources increasingly indicate that some Ghanaians may have participated in terrorist activities in the Sahelian region.
This indicates that some of these terrorist organizations in the West African region may have attempted to recruit Ghanaians.
To raise community awareness and intelligence, the Ministry of National Security is already directing the “see something, say something” program.
