According to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected president of Ghana in 2025, nurses in the country would be permitted to import cars with engines less than 1.8 liters duty-free.
On Wednesday, October 23, while speaking to students at the Korle Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training Institute in Accra, Dr. Prempeh, also known as Napo, gave a promise, which excited the nursing students in attendance.
“Dr. Bawumia, the incoming president of Ghana, will provide free duty on vehicles with engine capacities less than 1.8 capacity for nurses”, NAPO said.
Napo further emphasized the NPP’s appreciation for the vital role nurses play in healthcare delivery across the country. He assured that a Bawumia-led NPP government would introduce policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of nurses.
“The NPP recognizes and appreciates the key roles that our nurses play in the provision of healthcare to the people, so we shall also make sure that your lives will be better.
“As I said already, there will be free importation of vehicles with engines less than 1.8 capacity for our dear nurses among other important interventions to make you (nurses) live better and comfortably”, Napo said.
Furthermore, Napo confirmed that the Bawumia administration will maintain the nursing trainee allowance scheme that was first implemented by the NPP.
He warned that if former President John Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) took back power, this provision would be cancelled.
“The NDC and former President John Mahama oppose the nurse trainee allowance. They will cancel it if they win, which will make your life more difficult. Thus, he implored, reject the NDC.
The NPP government’s continuous efforts to finish the Agenda 111 hospital projects, which he claimed will improve healthcare facilities and provide jobs for nurses and other healthcare professionals, were also underlined by Dr. Prempeh.
“The NPP cares for our nurses,” he said, urging nurses and nursing students to vote for Dr. Bawumia and cast their ballots for all 275 NPP parliamentary candidates.
