Edward Ennin, the outgoing MP for Obuasi East, has stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo is largely to blame for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Ennin blamed President Akufo-Addo’s actions and choices for the party’s loss in an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3 on Monday, December 9, 2024. He said, “We should also hold the president accountable for this loss.”

Citing internal party problems as significant causes, Ennin made it clear that he was not shocked by the NPP’s loss. He cited alleged corruption inside the party and the marginalization of some members as major factors in their defeat.

“It had to do with the corruption that people were talking about, and the president wasn’t ready to do anything about it,” Ennin added.

Additionally, he requested that the party bring back individuals like as Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, Hopeson Adorye, and others.

As the NPP struggles with the fallout from the election results, the outgoing MP’s remarks are indicative of a larger feeling of discontent inside the party.
