A sharp decline in financial violations and irregularities across state organizations has been reported by Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, the recently appointed chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

This reduction, according to Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, also incorporates decades of financial evaluation at various Municipal, District, and Metropolitan Assemblies.

As crucial signs for the reduction, she says it is credible that key leaders of government institutions are now paying much more attention to procurement procedures and using moderation in spending.

She underlined that the penalties for financial breaches currently severely discourage institutional heads, a trend she pushed to promote.

In an interview with Kwabena Obeng Akrofi about her new role on Thursday’s Ark FM morning show, which is situated in Sunyani, Abena Osei-Asare revealed these details.

The former minister of state in charge of finance indicates that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament is working hard to reduce infractions cited against public institutions in the Annual Auditor-General’s Reports.

Admitting that though some infractions against institutions may have reduced the quantum of money involved, she was hopeful that a time would come when the infractions would be few with very minimal monies involved.

The lawmaker debunked claims that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has become ineffective in recovering embezzled resources.

The majority of heads of state who have been found guilty of wasting money have either returned the money or been jailed, she said.

Osei-Asare urges Ghanaians to have faith in the committee’s efforts to accomplish its goals, arguing that recovering suspected financial misconduct calls for patience and diligence in the midst of the democratic process.

The chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee reaffirmed the committee’s resolve to recoup all embezzled or misused state funds.

Abena Osei-Asare stated that in order to accomplish this, the PAC will keep collaborating with Parliament and other pertinent state institutions to carry out its legal supervision duties.

Abena Osei-Asare praised media outlets and other anti-corruption organizations as important players supporting the battle against corruption and its associated crimes.
