Graham Potter has been named as Chelsea’s new head coach.
Thomas Tuchel is replaced by Potter at Stamford Bridge after the club fired the German on Wednesday.
In exchange for Brighton’s permission to bring the highly regarded English manager to London, Chelsea has agreed to pay Brighton a release clause.
Potter, who will take over immediately, said he wants to “build a squad and culture fans can be proud of” on the club website.
On making the move to Stamford Bridge, Potter said: ‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of. I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.’

Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said: “I am very disappointed that Graham will be leaving us. He has done exceptionally well over the past three-and-a-bit seasons, he is an exceptional head coach and an exceptional person. He will be hugely missed at our football club.”
The 47-year-old spent seven years at Ostersund in Sweden, where he began his management career.
Prior to taking the helm at Swansea in June 2018, Potter led the Swedish team from the fourth division into the Europa League.
A season later, Brighton reportedly paid the Welsh team £3 million in compensation to gain his services. Under Potter, the club has subsequently finished 15th, 16th, and ninth.
After a shaky start to the season and amid rumors of off-field conflict with the team’s new ownership, Tuchel was fired.
Chelsea said in a statement that, despite investing more than £250 million on new players during their first summer transfer window under Boehly’s ownership, it was the “perfect time” to make a change.
In May, Roman Abramovich’s team was acquired by a group under the direction of American businessman Boehly.
