Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, also known as COKA in public, the former Afigya Kwabre South constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), wants all hands on deck to combat illegal mining in Ghana.

COKA, who is concerned about the current uptick in illegal mining (galamsey), has issued a strong call for Ghanaians to unite and battle the threat, which has practically spread like a canker over the nation.

On Monday, October 24, 2022, he talked with Nana Yaw Joel of Oyerepa FM and said the following:

“We all have a role to play, as far as galamsey is concerned. None should be left out. Winning this war is not a man’s business. It requires collective efforts…chiefs, media, civilians, everybody; I mean all hands on deck. We must also not be party centered. Lest we lose the fight”.

He insists that mining is a worthwhile endeavor.

Problems arise, though, when the proper steps are not taken to obtain the license to mine the mineral.

We’re not saying it’s incorrect of mine, Joel (pointing to the program’s host) no!.We demand that anyone involved in this industry follow the proper procedures.

We should be concerned about the fact that galamsey is destroying our farmland and water resources.Until we confront and defeat galamsey, we are all responsible when it comes to it.

We will win jointly if we take this strategy, he declared. The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources have recently called for a nonpartisan strategy to combat illegal mining in the nation.
