Lawyer and senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has responded to the seismic events that shook the party and government earlier this week.
He thinks the party handled a plan to obstruct government activity in Parliament successfully and that the ultimate result will be that “ultimately Ghana wins.”
“You cannot but admire the New Patriotic Party. In the end, the focus of all parties concerned is that ultimately Ghana wins and that is where all minds should be and we believe will be,” On October 26, Gabby tweeted.
The response came just 24 hours after a group of nearly 80 lawmakers threatened to stop supporting the administration if Ken Ofori-Atta, the finance minister, and Charles Adu Boahen, the minister of state in the finance ministry, were not fired.
The MPs are of the opinion that removing both individuals from their positions will aid in reversing the deteriorating trend of the Ghanaian economy, which is being hurt by, among other things, rising inflation, severe currency depreciation, and exorbitant business costs.
After the non-conformist MPs’ October 25 press conference, the NPP National Executives stressed in a statement that they were “seized with the topic.”
It is thought that the party leadership met at the Presidency and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo persuaded the MPs to support Ofori-Atta’s decision to continue leading the country as the government works to reach an agreement with the IMF.
