The Ministry of Finance has stated that Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State in the Finance Ministry, has not resigned.
“Rumours about the Honourable Minister of State tendering in his resignation are untrue, and should be disregarded,” the Ministry posted on their social media platforms.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claimed that Adu Boahen had submitted his resignation but that President Akufo-Addo was rejecting it.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa claims that Adu Boahen notified the President of his choice, but the President disapproved of it.
He made the accusation in a tweet on October 27, 2022, a Thursday.
In a tweet on October 27, 2022, he stated that “the President continues to downplay the profound economic crisis created by his abysmal leadership.”
Ablakwa’s accusation came after calls for President Akufo-Addo to dismiss Charles Adu Boahen and the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, from their positions by some members of the New Patriotic Party majority caucus in Parliament.
In a meeting with the NPP MPs, President Akufo-Addo urged them to examine the timing of their call and its potential effects on the IMF agreement, the creation of the 2023 Budget, and the approval of the Appropriations Bill.
Since then, the MPs have changed their minds and accepted that the ministers should continue to serve, as well as the IMF agreement and the budget processes.
