According to Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, a prominent member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should be fired rather than Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
He contends that Mr. Ofori-Atta cannot be blamed for causing the economy to decline since the president watched as it tanked.
On November 16, 2022, the former Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) political science instructor called for the president to be removed from office during an interview with Nana Otu Darko, the stand-in anchor of the Ghana Yensom morning program monitored by Ghanatodayonline.com.
He asserted that the president cannot be absolved of responsibility for the finance minister’s egregious economic incompetence.
He said that the massive borrowings made in the name of bonds benefit the president and his finance minister.
He said that whatever the finance minister did was done so in the president’s name and with the president’s consent.
“The president cannot turn around to tell Ghanaians he did not see what the finance minister was doing with the management of the economy,” He was tense.
In addition, he said that when the president met with the majority of NPP lawmakers calling for the finance minister’s dismissal, he threatened to ensure that they would all lose their primary elections if they did not drop their demand.
He claimed: “When the finance minister used his Databank to fund his campaigns, the president [asked] them where they were.”
He said that the President should be dismissed due to these factors.
