The National Democratic Congress, Alex Segbefia, the chairman of the NDC planning committee, Daniel Amartey, the acting director of elections for the NDC, the Electoral Commission, and George Opare Addo have all been named as parties to an application for an interim injunction that prohibits them, their agents, and/or assigns from swearing in George Opare Addo as the NDC’s national youth organizer-elect.
The defendants have also been prohibited from presenting George Opare Addo as the NDC’s new national youth organizer.
This came about after the court heard a request for an interim injunction made by Brogya Genfi, a candidate in the recently concluded National Youth Organizer election of the NDC, Ibrahim Rashid, the TEIN President of UPSA, and Paul Amaldago, the TEIN President for the University of Ghana, Legon. These individuals are contesting the legitimacy of George Opare Addo’s election on the grounds that it violated two express orders/decisions of the High Court
The plaintiffs have filed a Writ of Summons seeking the nullification of the recently concluded National Youth Organizer election on the grounds that 22 TEIN President delegates who were required to vote in the elections by express orders of the High Court were excluded and/or prevented from voting, and that 17 people who were not permitted to vote were instead permitted to do so.
The plaintiffs believe that the reported illegalities and violations, which totaled 39 votes and reduced the gap between the two candidates to only 25 votes, had a major influence on the election’s outcome.
