Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, often known as General Mosquito, has switched sides to Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the current National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress.
Speaking during the NDC congress on Saturday, December 17, 2022, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo remarked that “a mosquito you can see cannot bite” in reference to the heated debate between himself and Asiedu Nketiah.
Because Mr. Asiedu Nketiah decided to challenge his boss for the position of chairman following Saturday’s conference, there have been concerns that the party could disintegrate.
However, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo emphasized that the rivalry between the two will only bolster the party’s reputation as a democratic force in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
“I want our detractors to know that our party still remains strong, and we will come out of today’s elections even stronger. The chairmanship contest between the party chairman and the general secretary will not destroy the NDC, we are all too strong and too intelligent for that” Ofosu Ampofo stated.
“Let those false political prophets from the opposing side who are predicting armageddon after today’s election be clear in their minds that today will rather mark a renaissance of the great akatamansonians,” he added.
Today’s election will mark the beginning of our march towards rescuing Ghana from the wickedness, ineptitude and catastrophic NPP government”.
The party’s various constituencies are anticipated to send about 9,000 delegates to participate in the voting process.
The hotly disputed national chairmanship position will be between Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the current chair, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the current general secretary, Nii Armah Ashiety, and Samuel Yaw Adusei, a former member of parliament.
After putting in a lot of effort for the party, the two front-runners, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah and Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, have both declared their confidence in gaining the coveted chairperson post.
