Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the recently elected National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cannot longer serve on the Parliamentary Service Board, according to Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, the chairman of Ghana’s national media commission (NMC).

Asiedu Nketiah can no longer serve on the Parliamentary Service Board, according to Boadu Ayeboafo, who was speaking at an event in Accra. This is because the Ghanaian Constitution specifies that members of such bodies should be apolitical.

Additionally, he implied that Asiedu Nketiah, as the NDC’s leader, would not be able to provide Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, with objective counsel.
“There is this concern that once Mr. Asiedu Nketiah is now the chairman of the NDC, he should not be part of the advisory group to the speaker and serve on the board.

“Because I know that Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey was a member of the National Media Commission, and because of him, the Constitution was amended to say that anybody who holds political office should not be a member of the National Media Commission.

“Therefore, a member of the panel cannot hold political office.

How can the speaker, who is expected to exhibit the utmost degree of objectivity and neutrality, receive advice from the leader of a political party?” he inquired.

At the National Delegates Congress held last Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah triumphed in the contest for the party’s presidency.

Ofosu Ampofo earned 2892 votes, Samuel Yaw Adusei received 52 votes, and Nii Armah Ashietey received 38 votes, giving Asiedu Nketia a total of 5574 votes.
