The University of Ghana has been asked by the Old Vandals Association for a report on the inquiry into the conflict between the two male halls in 2021, on the basis of which the University insists on ejecting enrolled students from the halls.

According to them, they would let the choice made about the continuing students take precedence if the university provided proof that any Vandal had engaged in any illegal behavior.

In remarks to the media on Tuesday, Bernard Oduro Takyi, a former president of Commonwealth Hall, said “If the university says the Vandals are complicit in a certain vulgar attitude and behaviour, they have to put out the report.”

“We are giving them 72 hours to publish the report and name those who are found to be culpable and when they do, we will come out openly to let them sanction those involved. But, until that thing is done, any act by the university to go on the path they are going is biting more than they can chew,” he stated.

Tuesday morning, the Old Vandals Association stormed the campus of the university to support current students who were harmed by the management’s decision to remove students from the two residence halls.

All continuing male students of the all-male Commonwealth Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall will not return to their residential halls or any of the regular halls, according to the school administration.

A statement on December 14 stated that “they are to be randomly assigned to available rooms in any of the UGEL and private hostels.”

Students who are upset claim that this is the university administration’s most recent effort to stifle student activity on campus and to divide newcomers and continuing students.
