The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, in charge of Lands and Forestry, Benito Owusu-Bio, announced that the new building for the Police Service will be completed in the second week of February 2023 after touring the 504 one- and two-bedroom housing units being developed for the Police Service.

The continuing housing project, which is being carried out at Kwabenya (Atomic) in the Greater Accra Region, also includes accommodation for personnel of the Ghana Meteorological Service, Civil Aviation, and the DVLA in addition to the Police.

Speaking to the media on January 12, 2023, Mr. Owusu-Bio revealed that the Unique Development Company project is a land swap agreement between the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry, Lands Commission, Ministry of Interior, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, and the private developer.

He said that the government came to this arrangement after realizing the Police Service’s urgent need for housing, which was in keeping with the government’s intention to construct contemporary barracks for the security services as their numbers were rising by the day.

He said that while the COVID-19 epidemic disrupted and nearly stopped the development of the building in 2020, they are hoping to see it finished by February 2023 because 92% of the work has already been completed.

The Deputy Minister added that the project also comprises a 10-Unit, 2-bedroom housing complex with offices, canteens, and a police station to safeguard the safety of the Service’s engineering and mechanic department.

According to what he informed the media, the police station in the new neighborhood would serve not only members of the Police Service and their families but also residents of the surrounding districts.

The Deputy Minister further highlighted that in order to make room for the building of the Jubilee City Project, inhabitants of the Ghana Airport Company and the Meteorological Service were also evacuated as part of the project to the Jubilee Enclave.

During his working visit, the deputy minister in charge of lands also gave the journalists a tour of the old Police Service lodgings at the Airport, 37 DVLA enclave to help them understand the differences in view and the improved amenities provided by the government to the Police Service.

“Work is well advanced, and we are confident that the contractors will achieve the deadline,” he said, expressing his happiness at the pace of the work completed so far.

The project’s 504 dwelling units are part of the first phase, which also includes a fully equipped clinic, a school building for JHS and Primary, a police mobile maintenance unit, a police station, a fuel depot, and a garage.

On this working trip, Mr. Maxwell Adu-Nsarfoa, the technical director for lands at the ministry, and the advisor to the minister on mines were also accompanying the deputy minister.
