Alan Kyerematen, a presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to modernize the party if granted the nod by delegates when the party holds elections later in the year.
In order to free party officials to focus on their obligations to the party, the former minister of trade and industry suggested creating platforms that may raise money to compensate them.
Alan Kyerematen, a minister for a total of more than ten years who has worked for both the John Agyekum Kufuor and the present Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administrations, has said he will also establish a pension plan for party officials who have dedicated their entire careers to serving it.
The trade and industry expert was speaking on a Kumasi local radio station when he stressed the need of sponsoring party initiatives and inspiring party leaders.
“There must be a platform and programmes for party financing. I have the record to have set up the Constituency Business Ventures in the past, that is your way of strengthening the party,” Mr Kyerematen stated.
The seasoned politician offered a compensation structure for party executives at the constituency and national levels so they may concentrate on their main responsibilities inside the party.
In order to encourage individuals to work for the party, he also offered a pension plan for fully devoted party officials.
“Full-time party executives must be on full salary to enable them to devote more attention to party work.
“There will be a pension scheme to retired party executives who devote all their time to working for the NPP.
“The focus should be on the party because it is the party that brings the government into power,” he added.
Additionally, Alan Kyerematen emphasized the need for more consideration to be given to the issues of foot soldiers and other party employees who continue to labor ceaselessly to bring the party to power but are subsequently overlooked and receive no rewards.
He asserted that in order to create a powerful party that is capable of convincingly winning elections in the future, this tendency must be reversed.
The longest-serving Minister of Trade and Industry has already declared himself ready to run as the NPP’s flagbearer in the next, expected to be hotly contested, 2023 presidential primaries.
