“I commit myself to serve the NDC and Ghana in making sure that we restore hope and national pride in Ghanaians and putting our economy back, not only on recovery, but also prosperity. It is doable because we have done that before. NDC will do it again. There are tears in the eyes of Ghanaians and pain in the heart of Ghanaians because of how our economy has been mismanaged” Dr Kwabena Duffour statement after filing nominations.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer position, is the most recent to submit his nomination to run in the May 13 election.

At the party’s headquarters in Accra on March 23, he sent in his paperwork after his rivals John Mahama, Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of Kumasi, and Ernest Kwaku Krobeah, a businessman, had already done so.

The former finance minister said, “There are tears in the eyes of Ghana due to how poorly the economy has been managed by the ruling government,” in a statement following his official entry into the NDC presidential contest.

He is confident that he can “restore hope and national pride in Ghanaians and put our economy back” as the country’s leader.

The candidate claims that he is dedicated to helping the party and the country.

It would be recalled that John Mahama picked nominating papers few weeks ago to stand for the NDC presidential primary. The race has three additional participants.

Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of Kumasi, businessman Ernest Kwaku Krobea, and Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former finance minister, have all chosen to run for office.

From 1997 to 2001, Duffour served as finance minister for the late former president Jerry John Rawlings. From 2009 to 2013, he served as finance minister for the late president Atta Mills.
