Ahafo Regional Minister George Yaw Boakye on Wednesday cut the sod for the construction of Asunafo South District hospital, under the government’s flagship program dubbed ‘Agenda 111’ at Kukuom, in the Ahafo region.
Four local contractors, Chrisotu Construction, Tripple Key Company limited, Huntspoint Properties, and Close Munbers Construction, received the 60-bed facility that was assigned to them and was due for completion in December 2023.
To ensure that people of the district and beyond have access to high-quality healthcare, the project would include the design, acquisition, building, complete equipment, and completion of the facility.
The program aims to ensure access to high-quality healthcare services in the districts, according to Mr. George Yaw Boakye, the Ahafo Regional Minister, who cut the sod on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“this landmark project will propel the country to attain the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) three, which seeks quality and universal health care to all people” he stated.
The regional minister stated that the Agenda 111 project was part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to providing citizens of the nation with high-quality, reasonably priced health care services.
Mr. Yaw Boakye commended the contractors for hiring almost 90% local residents for the overall workforce and urged them to complete quality work that complied with international standards.
The regional minister instructed the contractors to use the building materials carefully to protect the security of hospital patients and staff. He issued a warning to staff members asking them not to steal from the project.
Asunafo South’s District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Frank Aduse Poku, stated that the country’s health institutions experienced significant pressure under the administration of COVID-19, which required development.
The DCE disclosed that plans were far advanced to upgrade the Sankore health center in the district, to a polyclinic status, to improve health care provisions to residents of the area.
The Paramount Chief of Kukuom Traditional Council (KTC), Osahene Kwaku Atakyi, who chaired the ceremony entreated the Ahafo Regional Co – ordinating Council (ARCC), the district assembly and the contract The DCE revealed that upgrades to the Sankore health center in the district to a polyclinic level were well under way and would boost the availability of health services for locals.
The Ahafo Regional Co- ordinating Council (ARCC), the district assembly, and the contractors were urged to work together to ensure that the work was done well by Osahene Kwaku Atakyi, the Paramount Chief of Kukuom Traditional Council (KTC), who presided over the ceremony.
Later, Mr. Yaw Boakye gave a variety of medical supplies to the Asunafo South District Health Directorate, which will thereafter distribute them to all the local healthcare facilities. ors to collaborate to ensure quality work done.
