The Vice Chairman, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has charged the Africa Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to work to ensure that member Parliaments put up extra vigilant effort in order to demand value for money from the Executive Arms of Governments in return for the confidence reposed in them by the citizenry. This charge was made in a Goodwill Message delivered to the Executive Committee, Africa Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association on behalf of the Chairman.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu reaffirmed that, in fact, the Executive Arms of Governments are elected into power to aid in addressing the many issues that face the populace. He lamented the difficulties faced by nations in preventing interruptions in the world supply chain, which rules the contemporary post-covid environment, as well as the knock-on effects of the Russia-Ukraine war on other economies.
Yet, it was also noted that by doing this, certain unscrupulous people might exploit these circumstances to deprive the State of its meager resources.
This is why parliaments were established, he added, to offer oversight duties so that these nation-wreckers could be stopped in their tracks.
He urged the Executive Committee (the African Region) to try to generate results that are commensurate with the expectations of the voters who elected them (the Parliamentarians) to serve as their representatives in light of this.
The Vice Chairman of the CPA International also reminded the Africa Region of the Association’s upcoming Executive Committee Meeting in Gibraltar, and asked members to bring critical thinking to bear on these five-point resolution, which includes; relocation of the Global Association’s Headquarters from London; the equity and equality matters in respect with respect to inclusivity for women; the Climate Change considerations; the discussion on the benchmark to serve as guide for the host city/country; and the vexed and ever present issue regarding the status of the CPA; in order for the Association to advance its mission and vision.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader in Ghana, sent his wishes for the Africa Region’s successful discussions at this meeting in Durban, South Africa, on behalf of the Association’s Chairman, Hon. Ian Grainger, its Secretary General, Steve Twigg, and his Deputy, Jarvis Matiya.
