10 aspirants pick up forms to contest NPP presidential primaries

Ten contenders have already picked up their candidacy forms for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential nomination.

Ten candidates have taken up nomination forms to compete for president as of the end of the first week of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2023.

The nomination period was begun by the NPP on May 26 and is anticipated to end on June 24. Each candidate who picked up their application paid a GHC50,000 non-refundable nomination fee.

In accordance with further regulations, all applicants who have picked up forms are required to submit completed paperwork on or by Saturday, June 24, 2023, and to pay a filing cost of GHC 300,000.

Former MPs for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh, Alan Kyerematen, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, as well as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, have all chosen to run for office.

Others include Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a two-time candidate for president, Boakye Agyarko, a former general secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, energy analyst Kwadwo Poku, and MP Kennedy Agyapong of Assin Central.

The NPP will host a super delegates’ conference to reduce the number of aspirants to five as required by the party’s constitution on Saturday, June 24, 2023, if all 10 of the candidates who have picked up nomination forms want to file.

In case it becomes necessary, the NPP has already arranged to host a conference of super delegates on Saturday August 26.
