Despite a crushing loss to the National Democratic Congress in the recently concluded by-election at Assin North, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged NPP members to keep their heads high.
He claims that there is still hope that the NPP will eventually retake the seat from the opposing party.
Following the results of the election, on June 28, the President acknowledged the value of democracy, where there will always be winners and losers, in a message posted on Twitter.
“I urge members of my party, the New Patriotic Party, to keep their heads up, recognising that, in a democracy, there are winners and losers, and that we live to fight another day. We once held the Assin North seat, and I am confident that, sooner rather than later, Assin North will be blue again,” he stated.
He continued by saying that Tuesday’s peaceful election in Assin North furthered Ghana’s democratic credentials. He also praised the Electoral Commission and security services for their persevering efforts.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) was congratulated by President Akufo-Addo for winning the by-election, though.
