The Western Region campaign team for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate Alan Kyerematen has sided with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The team’s leader stated in a video from a press conference that they had chosen to support Dr. Bawumia’s campaign because of their political future on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
This is to inform the general public and the people of Ghana that the leadership of the now-defunct “Alan for 2024” here in the Western Region has decided to support the candidacy of Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in light of Alan Kyerematen’s decision to withdraw from the NPP presidential race.
He claimed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was his best option after lengthy discussion and a careful evaluation of the four other contenders.
The leader continued, “We set out to support Alan Kyerematen because we believed in his vision. We must now make a choice that will safeguard our political future as young people in the Western Region now that he has opted not to run.
He continued by saying that the NPP’s only chance of winning the 2024 presidential elections lies with the vice president.
What Alan will do in the near future is unknown. Before the general elections in 2024, there are unverified rumors that he may look into the prospect of standing as an independent candidate.
In the Super Delegates Congress, Alan placed third behind Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
