On Wednesday, November 27, armed security guards broke into the Metro TV station in Accra and interrupted a live broadcast.
About ten officers were on the premises, according to a station employee who verified the invasion to Myjoyonline.
The staff member said that when they asked the officers why they were there, they responded that they were pursuing someone.
Dr. Randy Abbey, Metro TV’s morning host, was shown interrogating several of the officers about their behavior in a video that Myjoyonline.com was able to witness.
Unfriendly verbal exchanges between the parties were observed.
After being compelled to take a break to talk to the cops, Randy Abbey reported the occurrence on his Good Morning Ghana show.
However, he said, some Metro TV private security guards were hurt attempting to bar the security guards from entering the station’s studios.
“Our private security has been trying to prevent them, and a couple of them are injured,” he said.
The offenders, he stated, were “armed policemen and some other individuals who were trying to forcibly enter the studio.”
Dr. Abbey revealed in a different video that the armed police officers informed him that they were there to carry out a court order. He claimed that the police had also tried to take his car away.
Members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) broke into the Accra-based Twi TV station UTV’s building exactly one year ago and disrupted its prime-time program.
Following appeals for the offenders to be punished in order to discourage future crimes, 16 people were found guilty and fined by the Achimota Magistrates’ Court. According to the court, each individual was had to pay GH¢2400.
The prisoners faced charges of rioting and conspiracy to commit a crime. They admitted guilt to the accusations.
Calls for media safety have increased recently, particularly as the elections in December draw near.
