Mr. Alex Opoku-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme, has received a two-month suspension without pay.

This comes after a probe into a verbal assault complaint involving him at Kumasi’s Manhyia Government Hospital was completed.

On December 1, 2022, Mr. Alex Opoku-Mensah was placed on administrative leave while a committee made up of members of the National Service Scheme, the Public Services Commission, and the Ministry of Education was formed to look into the situation and submit a report to the NSS Management within a month.

In a letter dated December 23 and sent to the Ashanti regional NSS Boss, it was stated that the management’s decision to impose the penalties was based on a report provided to the NSS by an inquiry committee that looked into the situation.

“At its sitting on Wednesday, 21st December 2022, the Board after extensively deliberating on the Committee’s report, unanimously adopted the recommendations proffered by the Committee,” Parts of the letter were read.

Additionally, following the two calendar month suspension, it instructed Mr. Opoku Mensah to go to the head office and work under supervision.

Alex Opoku-Mensah, the regional NSS head, is alleged to have verbally harassed a nurse at the Manhyia Hospital who had a misunderstanding with his daughter.
