James Gyakye Quayson, the Member of Parliament for Assin North, has filed a complaint with the General Legal Council (GLC) regarding what he believes to be improper conduct on the part of the Attorney General (AG).

Mr. Gyakye Quayson explained the AG’s improper conduct in a letter to the head of the General Legal Council’s disciplinary committee. He listed a number of reasons, including violations of human rights.

He claims that the Attorney General’s professional malfeasance has threatened his fundamental human right.

“Through his professional misconduct, the Attorney-General has clearly jeopardized my fundamental human right to be presumed innocent until I am proved guilty and my right to a fair trial.

“I, therefore, respectfully request disciplinary proceedings against the Attorney General for professional misconduct as outlined above,” the Assin North lawmaker wrote to the General Legal Council.

The concerned MP said his lawyer requested a certified copy of the transcript of the hearing that day and he will provide it to the Disciplinary Committee as soon as it becomes available.

Mr Gyakye Quayson gave another example of a demonstration of what he called inappropriate conduct on 16 June, when his lawyer attempted to bring the court’s attention to the fact that he was speaking in the Assin North by-election . Lady used offensive language against him.

He said: “This baseless insult by the Attorney General was baseless and had no place in the proceedings and, as recommended by my lawyers, is contrary to the principles of professional ethics for lawyers.”

According to the MP, the Minister of Justice also committed a crime “by granting at least one interview to the media in my case”.
