John Dramani Mahama spoke warmly of his late employer, John Evans Atta Mills, at a ceremony to mark the 11th anniversary of his passing.

In praising the principles that Mills stood for and ardently promoted, he made particular mention of his degree of integrity, humility, and modesty.

However, Mahama used millions of dollars at home to support his point about the modest Mills in his speech to a gathering to remember his departure on June 24.

“Atta Mills was a man of integrity and all of us can vouch for his integrity, he was a modest man and didn’t need millions of dollars in his house to survive,”

He said, to applause from the audience.

Since it was revealed that money in local and foreign denominations had been stolen from a minister’s home two weeks ago, the topic of million dollars has gained attention.

Former sanitation minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah informed the police that she had lost a million dollars, 300,000 euros, and 350,000 Ghana cedis to thieving housemaids.

Along with three other beneficiaries, the two have been accused of stealing and are currently appearing before an Accra Circuit Court.

Since being arrested and granted bail by the Special Prosecutor, the minister has resigned from her job as minister.

The Attorney-General has been consulted by police over the theft case docket that was reported by the minister and her spouse.
