Pius Hadzide, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Asuogyaman seat, has come under fire from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is demanding his immediate arrest and punishment.
Additionally, they want him to step down from his position as National Youth Authority (NYA) CEO.
The demand was made in response to Mr. Hadzide’s purported first-ever public admission that he helped some Ghanaians get to Australia for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The uproar surrounding Mr. Hadzide’s alleged admission has been heightened by the fact that it aligns with his ongoing campaign for legislative office.
The NDC contends that he should be held legally accountable for his unlawful activities.
They think that if he is elected to power, this revelation would damage his reputation and put people at risk.
During his campaign, Mr. Hadzide made a daring pledge to his supporters that if they elected him to represent them in Parliament, he would provide comparable possibilities.
He highlighted his capacity to open doors for foreign travel by assuring voters that he will make it easier for them to go to the United States for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
The public’s reaction to a video that went viral with Mr. Hadzide making these promises was not unanimous.
The NPP candidate, who had worked in the sports ministry in the past, used his background to support his claims.
He stressed how his experience qualifies him to assist young people in securing chances abroad.
The NDC, however, finds these assertions unimpressive and interprets them as proof of misconduct.
The NDC’s deputy national communications officer, Malik Basintale, addressed the matter at a news conference.
He stated that the party believed Mr. Hadzide ought to be made to answer for his deeds.
Basintale contends that such an admission—particularly one pertaining to the use of public funds for private benefit—cannot be disregarded by the government.
In order to stop other abuses, he contended, the authorities needed to move quickly to look into the situation and bring charges against Hadzide.
“We know that this declaration may be a mission impossible because Pius Enam Hadzide is not just learning from himself. We are calling for the immediate dismissal of Pius Enam Hadzide as the CEO for the National Youth Authority.”
At a news conference on Thursday, September 12, he declared, “He has openly admitted that he was guilty in the Australian Visa Scandal and must be arrested and prosecuted without delay.”
