Thanks to a masterful first-half goal by midfielder Myziane Maolida, Comoros defeated Ghana 1-0 to win the match for the second time in a row.

Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier was decided by Maolida’s deft maneuvering through the center circle while dodging challenges and launching a crisp strike into the net in the 43rd minute.

The Black Stars missed a number of good chances, including ones where Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew were in advantageous positions, but they were unable to convert. During the second half, Inaki Williams twice missed the mark with headers from within the area.

The sole attempt Ghana had on target came from a deflected effort by Mohammed Kudus in the 87th minute, but the Black Stars will be furious that what looked to be a straightforward goal was not given.

Black Stars went into the match seeking to get revenge for their shocking early elimination from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations due to a 3-2 loss to Comoros. They also hoped for a victory that would have vaulted them to the top of Group I.

They now only have three points as a result of the loss, behind Comoros (six points) and Mali (four points) in the group standings. There are still eight games to be played, but the group champion will earn a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
