Claims by several opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers that they had a hand in the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) procurement have been denied by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, asserted that as Dr. Bawumia is the only initiator of the DRIP, Ghanaians should not tolerate any kind of deceit on their behalf from the opposition party.

During the Bawumia for President 2024 campaign team’s Bold Vision tour of the Central region, they stopped at the Awutu Breku, where he spoke to dignitaries who had come to celebrate the Awubia festival.

Dr. Bawumia made it clear that Parliament was not involved in the program’s execution, therefore any effort by an MP to assert that they were aware of the initiative beforehand ought to be taken as a flagrant falsehood.

Recall that the NPP administration sent excavators and other earthmoving equipment to all district and municipal assemblies for use in the DRIP’s nationwide road maintenance program.

A few parliamentarians have attempted to clarify that their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund was used to carry out the project.

He clarified that he had suggested its execution on a previous committee that he led.

“On that committee which I chaired, the critical roads committee, I came up with the idea that we should buy equipment to help every district construct roads in Ghana. So we were to buy all districts excavators, rollers, graders, backhoes, tipper trucks and so on. This was an idea from my committee. It has nothing to do with Parliament” Dr Bawumia stated.

“It has nothing to do with Parliament. We came up with the idea, we funded that. It didn’t go to Parliament for any approval so nobody should come and claim that they were responsible for all the equipment that we have sent to every district in this country.”

“This was the committee that I chaired. We came up with that idea and I made sure that we bought all of this equipment and we have taken it to every district in Ghana. So nobody should come and lie about it” he added.
