Seth Kwame Acheampong, the minister for the Eastern region, has asked NPP members to cast a large number of ballots in favor of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in order for him to represent the party as its presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.
The top five candidates from a field of ten will be chosen by the ruling party’s special delegate election on August 26 before the final round of voting to choose its flagbearer is held on November 4.
Acheampong claimed that the economist stands out among the contenders for the top job at a campaign stop in Bawumia, Mpraeso, in the Eastern Region.
The former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana, according to the three-term lawmaker, is the only candidate who can support the party’s continued rule and President Nana Akufo-Addo’s good work.
According to Acheampong, because Bawumia has faithfully performed his duties and made sacrifices for the party, the delegates must reward him by giving him a resounding victory on August 26, 2023.
“Dr. Bawumia is the best person to lead the NPP to cross the Red Sea and also ‘break the 8’ in the history of Ghana politics,” Acheampong declared.
He assured Bawumia that the Eastern Region’s delegates are firmly behind him.
Dr. Bawumia is one of nine candidates running for the position, along with former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister of Agriculture Afriyie Akoto, and former Attorney General Joe Ghartey.
In the general elections slated for December 7, 2024, the victor would compete against opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and former president John Mahama.
