The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the details of its extensive plan for the next nationwide voter registration exercise, which is slated to occur from May 7 to May 27, 2024.

Prior to the next elections, this project seeks to guarantee that all eligible voters are included in the electoral process.

In today’s meeting in Accra with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), the EC underlined the significance of the registration procedure and talked about different approaches to improve accessibility and voter engagement.

The possible inclusion of Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) in the voter registration drive, specifically in the Guan Constituency in the Oti Region, was one of the most important items on the agenda.

The demographics of the area and the requirement to guarantee fair representation on the electoral roll informed the decision to include SALL in the registration procedure. In order to guarantee a seamless and effective registration procedure in these regions, the EC is dedicated to resolving any logistical issues.

The EC announced intentions to start a national initiative on May 30, 2024, with the goal of replacing lost voter identity (ID) cards, in addition to the voter registration drive.

With the help of this project, any inconsistencies in the voter database will be fixed, and all eligible voters will be guaranteed proper identity for the next election.

Moreover, acknowledging the significance of accessibility and convenience for voters, the EC declared its plan to open more registration locations across the nation. The anticipated surge of registrants will be accommodated by these additional facilities, which will also serve to expedite the registration process, making it more effective and open to all residents.
