ECG to disconnect Parliament over GH₵23m debt

A debt exceeding GH₵23 million is the reason why the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is thinking of cutting off power to the Parliament on Wednesday, February 21.

The current “Operation Zero Balance” program, which attempts to collect delinquent payments from different clients, includes this prospective action.

Parliament plays a crucial role in national governance, so it’s surprising that it’s one of the disconnection targets.

As per the sources, ECG’s operations are hindered and its capacity to satisfy power producers’ demands is hampered by the debt accumulation.

Accra Academy Senior High School experienced a similar disconnection on February 19th due to an outstanding debt of GH¢400,000, which prompted this possible action.
