Ejura-Nkoranza highway declared security zone by Police

The Ejura-Nkoranza high has been designated a security zone by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command.

The announcement follows a series of persistent armed robberies in the neighborhood that resulted in the murder of a police officer on that roadway.

The police confirmed that on the specified day, around 15 males who were thought to be Fulani herdsmen started the robbery operation.

Police are still pursuing the other suspects, but so far just one has been taken into custody.

The police officer is the most recent victim of many suspected armed robberies that took place in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality in the Ashanti Region.

Following a meeting between the Ashanti North Regional Police Command and the Ejura Traditional Council on December 1,2022, the Asante Mampong Divisional Police Commander, ACP David Kwasi Amoako, made this announcement.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ofosu Ackaah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura, Hon. Dr. Kingsley Osei, the Ejura District Police Commander, Superintendent Achaab Bismark, and other heads of security agencies were present at the meeting. The Chief of the Ejura Traditional Area, Barima Osei Hwedie II, and his elders were also present.

Speaking to Ghanatodayonline.com Kwame Agyenim Boateng after the meeting, ACP Kwasi Amoako said anyone who will engage in activities that will directly or indirectly threatens the peace of ressidents and commuters on the highway and any other road in Ejura shall be sternly dealt with in accordingly.

Police in the region, he continued, will step up surveillance activities across the Municipality and focus on criminals in order to prevent them from killing people.

For his part, Barima Osei Hwedie II, the head of Ejura Traditional Area, lamented the speed at which nomadic herders are encroaching on their villages and urged the security services to assist in putting a stop to them.

He pointed out that thousands of farmers, both large and small-scale, had been dealt devastating blows by the pastoral men, necessitating prompt action from the police.

He vowed to do all in his power to assist the security forces in defending the inhabitants of Ejura against these nomadic herders.
