The attitude of certain athletes when they are chosen to represent the nation in important tournaments has been criticized by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, as being unpatriotic.

He emphasized the need for them to prioritize nationalism and patriotism when representing the country while addressing the GFA Congress on Monday in Kumasi.

“It is also the responsibility of the players and technical team to exhibit the spirit of nationalism and patriotism whenever they get the chance to represent the country.

Ussif emphasized the substantial assistance that the state gives to the national teams and voiced his dismay that some players appear to put financial rewards ahead of pride in their country.

“The Ghana Football Association has been given the important duty of managing our national teams. With this trust comes the responsibility to answer to the Ghanaian people for your stewardship, the minister stated.

He assured them that the state would continue to support the National Teams, and it is their responsibility to make sure that all resources are completely accounted for in order to meet the expectations of the citizens of Ghana.

According to him the government remains committed to the holistic development of sports in Ghana.
